Here is what we listen to and how:

We keep our ears open to all music formats, but for right now, for the most part we listen to standard CDs, gold CDs, and good old vinyl LPs. Each review will have a symbol so you know exactly what format is being reviewed.

We rate each CD or LP reviewed three (3) different ways:

• Musical Performance is a subjective assessment on the quality of the music presented on the album.
  
  
• Recording Quality assesses the sonic merit of the album. Essentially, this ranking refers to how good the album sounds. This does not take the musical performance into account. What ranks here are things like overall sound quality, timbral balance, detail, resolution, soundstaging, etc.
  
  
• Overall Listening Enjoyment allows the reviewer the freedom to weight the above criteria independently to arrive at an overall rating for the album.
  
  
• SnapShot! Rating: An amalgam of all three of the above that appears with our SnapShot! capsule reviews.

Pathetic/Poor Barely Acceptable Acceptable/OK Average Good Very Good Outstanding Near Classic Classic/Reference
